Bob Sattler CommentsDo you have any former crew members who made the far east trip in 1947 under Capt. Willman? CommentsDoes anyone remember being tied up at the state piers in Fall River MA. 1955-56. I stood watch on that pier and thought I was in the North Pole---it was freezing. Couple of mates got into trouble breaking into a certain ensign cad hot wired it and was keeping warm--listeing to the radio and got to cozy -- feel asleep. Don't what happen to them. Come on some of you old salts from that era lets hear from you. I know you out there. I have been on some other military web sites and none come as close as this site. Keep up the great work Paul.Mike.<>< CommentsNICE TO THINK ABOUT OLD TIMES CommentsI was on the Fox in 59-60 and boarded her in Newport RI when the FOX was part of DesRon 8. I was a 'deck ape' at the time. I left the Fox around mid 1960 to go to ET School Great Lakes and then served out my enlistment on the Valley Forge. Things I remember: CDR Robinson, Frank Sonofrank, I believe from JohnstownPA and was 1st class boatswains mate. I believe another was Bill Deal? I remember a Med-cruise in late 1959 when we took a 72 degree roll and would would up in Toulon France dry dock for hull repairs. Great liberity since we were the only US ship there. We were in Naples for Christmas 1959. The Med was especially rough that year and we had a guy hurt during replenishing. He had to be transfered to the Essex for medical attention. During the "highline" exercise of transfering this guy we lost our steering and the poor guy wound up in the drink. I was aboard the FOX in 1960 when we visited Mayport FL which I believe became her new home port. I currently live in Cape Coral FL I enjoyed the web page. Thanks. My compliments to the Webmaster, Paul Wieloszynski, for a job well done. Hope you all have a great time at the reunion. CommentsI was a spook sent up to Fox during 1972 Operation BRIGHT PENNY. Fox earned Combat Action Ribbon for taking counterbattery fire. I, along with another CTT1 Albert E. (Charlie) Noble, were with Fox for about two weeks in April/Mary '72. Crew was fantastic. I don't remember anybody's name (too short time onboard, but I do recall incident when we were taking counter-battery fire. Charlie and I were using your ECM gear (AN/WLR-1 and ULQ-6) during the attack - Charlie was manning the Whirlly-One, I was tracking with ULQ-6; the Ensign (EW Officer) was ducking under the table -- Stars & Stripes Pacific had a front page photo of our/your ship with two huge geysers straddling her from the shore fire. I was a stewburner onboard a short while in '54-'55 (I can remember the GITMO cruise and the guns firing at Vieques and at some towed targets, I was discharged from the ship in '55 The Supply Officer was Lt. J.D. Brett, who later became the Exchange Officer at Military Sea Transportation Service, Atlantic and who gave me a job at the Brooklyn, NY office. I retired after 40 years with MSTS. CommentsThanks for a great and through job on DDR-829 website. I was onboard a short time as stewburner in '54-'55 and was discharged from the ship. I can remember sailing to GITMO and through a storm in the North Atlantic. The SUPPO at the time was Lt. Justin D. Brett. He became an Exchange Officer at Military Sealift Command, Atlantic in Brooklyn, NY. He gave me a job as a supply clerk in '55 and I spent my 40 year career working up that system and eventually became it's director. Don't see anyone who I can remember from my days onboard, but then again the '54-'55 time frame is short. Good health and happiness to all former shipmates and readers.
