CommentsReally enjoyed seeing all the information available on our old ship. As time permits i will visit again.
CommentsWent to the site on ports of call and found that you had not entered 2 Med trips that were made during 59-62.During that time we also made a trip to the North Atlantic and crossed over the Artic Circle thus becoming bluenosers. We fell behind the rest of the squadron due to the fact that we hit a submerged log in the St.Johns River on our way out the channel. We were sent to a shipyard in Jacksonville to have a new screw put on.We were in a floating drydock and at this time a shipsservicemen was reported missing(awol etc.).He surfaced a couple of days later alongside the ship.We got under way right into the eye of a hurricane.Since we were alone we pulled into Argentia Newfoundland for fuel. From there we went to a place in Iceland to refuel and then went on picket station above the Artic Circle. This was part of a NATO exercise and our liberty port was Edinburg Scotland. From there we returned to Mayport.Somewhere in this house i have listed all the ports we were in during my time aboard. If i find them will forward so that you can update that site. Tks Joe QM to MM in 1 hitch

During my tour, we made the Med cruise, and from Newport to Caribbean.

CommentsHi, Great site. I wish I'd found it years ago. I came aboard shortly after the ship returned from the around the world cruise and was assigned to R Div.(Just after Labor Day '72) under EM6 Fournier. While perusing the crew list, I noticed that my name as well as William Stankowski (EM 3) were missing. Bill came aboard in Oct.'72. I did notice some names which I recognized. I really enjoyed my time on board, except that we never really got to travel, and was highly disappointed when I received transfer orders because the ship was going to Brooklyn as a reserve trainer. Thanks Michael L. Nelson

Commentsif you can remember an E3 cooking in officers wardroom/pantry and part time ship's barber. I came on as E3 in Jan 1971 and departed E6 in 1975 under the guidance of SH1 Henry Green.I retired in July 1988 and raised My family in Long Beach, Ca.
CommentsI just wanted to say thank you to everyone who served on this ship and everyone who posted on this website. My father,Roger Townsend, served on the Fox from '69-'72. For fathers day I was making him a DVD with all his navy pictures and I was so excited to find so many pictures of him that we didnt have in our albums on this site. The dvd came out WONDERFUL and I can not wait to give him the gift. Thanks againf for producing such a great website!
CommentsChills and tears. Lots of names missing. I believe that sometime in the late 1960's there was a fire in the Navy's Record Branch in Tulsa,OK (?) I will check my records for the exact date and location. Maybe that is why the names are missing.
CommentsTruth in advertising? Largest single ship site? We think not. More pics perhaps, but... Good site though.
CommentsI am writing a research paper concerning the events on 10 May 1972 in which Fox participated in the attack on Haiphong with three cruisers. If any crewmembers were aboard during this event, please send me an email. This is for the Naval Historical Foundation.

CommentsLoved the whole web site of THEE Fox DD-289. I am the daughter of Clifford W. Schulte he passed on August 31, 1985. I was born 1945. Will not be able to make this Reunion in Md. but grateful for the photos of this remarkable past of my father in the USNavy. I had a postcard of the ship and a classmate painted a 11X13 of the Fox. He had tears in his eyes when I presented it to him at Christmas time. We have boarded the USS Enterprise, USS Wisconsin, USS North Carolina in Wilmington, NC. Did not talk about the War perse but took me to see Tora, Tora as part of his experience. Yes, Hollywood showed a lot of hip.... but we had a great experince together. I am one of two daughters.....but think that the experience I had with my father, is priceless. Good luck with your reunion and God Speed all the attentees! Sincerely, P. Michele Schulte 45 Madonna Place Ft. Thomas, Kentucky 41075-1915 Hope to see you all in Maine..... I would like to purchase two cigar- ette lighters of the USSS Myles Fox to enclose with his flag from his military funeral. Thank you for your consideration with this matter.

CommentsA sort of long story would precede this ending, but my wife and I were married by the Chaplain (LT Eugene Turner) from the USS Fox when it made a port-of-call to Mogadiscio, Somali, in June 1969. A most memorable and unforgetable event.

CommentsHi mates. Hope you are all doing well.
CommentsI am helping my mom do a write up of a relative that was on the Fox. Raymond F. "Sandy" Sanders was on the Fox when she first left 5 July 45 for Hawaii and Japan. He talks about eating spaghetti for the first week and a half and eating lamb and not even knowing it was lamb. He talks about being there for the signing of the Armistice and taking out mines by shooting at them to blow them up. He mentions being a chief while in the European Theatre aboard the LST 355. I am just helping with the timeline of some of what he talks about. This site really helped me with that. thanks... Donna Bader
CommentsI'd do it all over again!
CommentsIt brings back old times and all the faces of guy you had forgotten.
CommentsSir - I am looking for the remaining crew of my farthers ship; The Fox, which was a DD and saw service in the Korean War. I don't know is this another DD with a similar name ? I do not believe the hull was number 829.
CommentsTo whom it may concern I was on the USS John R Pierce DD 753 in Nov 1973 When the the USS MC Fox Releived the John R Pierce for duty the Pierce was set to be decommisioned. The USS Fox was steaming up the east river in Brooklyn, NY. and was going to berth next to the pierce for crew transfer. The USS Fox had no tug service to bring the ship in to pier charlie at the Brooklyn naval ship yard. The current and the wind caught the Ship and turned her sideways the Fox smashed in to pier Kilo at the ship yard, The foxal had extensive damage. We did the crew transfer at this time 12 days later temp repairs were made and the USS MC Fox got underway to have the repair done in Boston MA.I left the Fox in Dec 1975 to a new duty station

CommentsI am posting this message in place of my Father. He passed on in 1982. And, in doing some extensive research, I find that he served with many of you. I have a profile on Together We Served.com and have added his profile to mine to remember one fallen. I am currently serving in the Navy Reserve with 22 years service as a GM1. I invite you to view the profiles and if you will, please contact me back to possibly share with me any info as to who may have known him. I look forward to hearing back from you. Freedom for All...All for Freedom, GM1 Jeff Wieberdink

CommentsSir/Madam. I purchased (from a garage sale) a wooden plaque mounted with metal of your ships mascot and ships number on it. I asked some old Navy colleagues of mine what it could be. They seem to think that it could be the plaque that would have hung on the ward room wall. Can some one please contact me as i would like to return it to its home. Please send an email address so we can correspond. I can send photos of it. Kind regards John Conway.

It is with the utmost regret that I report the death of my brother-in-law, best friend and Myles C. Fox shipmate Richard A. Cecere. Richard passed away 29 June 2007 after a long and arduous battle with lukemia. After departing Fox and the navy in 1966, he remained steadfastly loyal to the navy and especially DD-829, his fighting lady.
Just checking in and saying hello to all my old shipmates.
Having difficulty obtaining DD-214 without service number, and I cannot find my service #. Any way of finding this on a FOX crew manifest, or some similar source ? I was USNR from about '65 thru '72 ? Stationed in Newport, Boston, FOX, Ft. Schuyler, NY and NRTC Middletown NY.
I am looking for either two BT's snd and 3rd class or they may be et's. either way I believe they ran a slosh fund on board. Please help.
Loved the -getting underway'-to the past.
